Flea treatments and methods of preventative care can be expensive, smelly, and not very healthy for your pet! If you agree, we’re glad you found this article. We’ll walk you through several methods of saying goodbye to fleas with ingredients that you may already have in your home.
Lemon Spray
Yep, just a little bit of lemon may be enough to keep fleas away. Make your own citrusy treatment by adding lemon slices or wedges to boiling water. Once the solution has had time to boil for a few minutes, let it cool off overnight. When you wake up the next day, you can pour this formula into a spray bottle and mist away! Spray it on your bed, couch, pet’s playpen, or anywhere your dog likes to lounge. This method will keep pests from invading and will make your home smell amazing.
Salt
Carpets are one of the main places where fleas like to hide; burrowing secretly while they plan out their next move. Gross, right? In order to keep this creepy occurrence from happening, we suggest heavily sprinkling salt on your carpets and letting it sit for a few days. This universal ingredient will take all of the moisture out of your carpet, making it a less desirable landing spot for fleas. Simply vacuum the salt away once it’s worked its magic.
Dish Soap
Making this clever flea trap takes literally no time at all. Fill up a bowl with a small amount of dish soap and warm water, and presto! You’ve done your part. Fleas will be attracted to the moisture of the water, and will then find themselves stuck in the glue-like texture of the dish soap. This method is best for catching fleas before they latch on to your beloved pet, but it may be enticing enough to have them jump off their furry coat as well. ;)
Plants
Owning flea-repelling plants is probably the best way to keep these pests out of your home completely. Chrysanthemums, lavender, and spearmint all impart oils that fleas absolutely despise. Lucky for you, humans find these plants to be pretty, fragrant, and useful! None of these are especially large, and therefore can be added to any space.
Eviction Notice
If your home or pet is experiencing a serious flea infestation, we recommend consulting your vet, exterminator, or both. With that being said, all of the aforementioned methods are fantastic at kicking fleas out of your house, or preventing them from moving in. 👏👏👏
